Vehicle Description 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 2 Door Hardtop It may be hard to imagine now, but before our roads were filled with Toyotas, Hyundai, Subaru, and Nissans, it was GM and Fords that were the go to brands for everyday cars. G-bodies in particular were ubiquitous and included the Cutlass, the Regal, the Monte Carlo. Add Delta, LeSabre, and Caprice plus the midsized line of Celebrity, Century, and Calais, and GM was king. In 1985 alone, Oldsmobile produced 260,658 Cutlasses.   For consignment, a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme showing 30,181 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is a one owner car which will include the original bill of sale and window sticker with this amazing survivor of a ubiquitous commuter car now rarely seen in the wild.  This is not just a car for Radwood, this is now a car that is 40 years old, and the passage of time has rendered it a rarity that would be a welcome sight at general car shows. Exterior This edition is painted in Silver Metallic showing some age but on straight panels and offset by a classic landau black vinyl top that envelopes the quarter window in back, your window to the world if you were a child of the 80's. Sharp lines define the profile of the car with the shoulder line stepping up at the rear quarter panel below the slightly raised Landau where a scripted Cutlass Supreme emblem is attached to denote the higher trim level. A black pinstripe underscores the shoulder line and continues along the trunk lid where reverse lights run horizontally. 14-inch wheels have wire wheel covers and wear 205/70R14 tires. Overall, the uneven paint is showing some age while the trim is in decent shape. One bumper is rusting on the bottom despite good chrome in other places. We also note some deep surface rust spots down low, a horizontal ding, and a general dullness and various blemishes in the paint. Interior Long doors continue the sharp angles with a panel of stitched gray velour over vinyl and plastic covered door panels in a clean presentation with the requisite faux burlwood accenting. This stitched velour continues on the split bench front seat and the rear bench mirrors the design and its cloth looks undisturbed.  The plastic steering wheel has a few cracks while retaining some of the luster that on many cars wears by usage over the years. Nothing but right angles on the dashboard which houses a horizontal speedometer, faux burlwood backed switch panels and vent housings, and two rows of idiot lights in lieu of gauges. The center stack is classic G-body with standard A/C control levers and an AM/FM/Cassette radio embedded in a protruding soft plastic box and it's all clean.  This is a column shift car so no center console obstructs the transmission hump and low pile gray carpet covers the floor protected by carpeted mats and while the gray headliner is in great condition.  A fitted, black cloth mat covers the trunk, and a space saver spare tire is in a well on the right. We note some sun damage to the dash pad including a few cracks. New power window motors have been installed, assuring their functionality. Drivetrain A clean driver quality bay greets us, and the crowded spaghetti bowl of hoses is hiding a 307ci V8 topped by a 4-barrel carburetor and backed by a TH200 3-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 2.14 gears. Power brakes are on board as front discs and rear drums. A new heater core has been added. Undercarriage Typical surface rust exists on the heavy metal parts and residual oil is found on the pan, flywheel cover and transmission, but otherwise an underside that is free of debris and invasive rust. A bit of rust is creeping in on the door bottoms and some encapsulator might be warranted to impede growth. A single exhaust flows to a stock style muffler before dumping unceremoniously. Suspension is made up of coil springs in front and a 4 link with coil springs in |
